China’s ferrous scrap imports jump 57% in May’21

China imported 111,400 t of recycled steel raw materials (ferrous scrap) in May’21, up 57% m-o-m, SteelMint learnt from Chinese customs data published recently. Japan remained the top exporter with 79,327 t followed by South Korea and Hong Kong. Scrap import shipments into China rose owing to strong domestic demand and robust trade after restrictions on imports were lifted, SteelMint notes.
