China the largest iron ore importer of the world has imported 5.61 MnT pellets in 2017 Q1 according to the trade data released by Chinese Customs. China pellet imports have witnessed a significant increase of 38% Y-o-Y for the first quarter compared to 2016 which were at 4.07 MnT then.
In Mar’17, China pellet imports were at 1.75 MnT 5% down compared to the quantity of 1.84 MnT in Feb’17. However pellet imports were up by 117% Y-o-Y for the corresponding month last year as it was 0.81 MnT in Mar’16.
Country-wise China Pellets Import in Mar’17
China mainly imports high-grade pellets from India, Australia, Ukraine, USA and Russia, etc. In Mar’17, India exported 0.73 MnT pellets to China and continues to remain the largest exporter of pellets to China. India is actively exporting high-grade pellets to China in order to fulfill its pellet appetite. Ukraine turned out to be the second largest pellet exporter with 0.28 MnT pellets in Mar’17.
