China: Ferro silicon prices stay stable as steel buying remains cautious

  • Stable semi-coke prices support production costs
  • Ample supply limits scope for price increases

China’s ferro silicon market remained stable w-o-w on 15 October 2026 after the Golden Week holidays, with Si:75% prices at RMB 6,160-6,340/t ($920-947/t) exw, inclusive of taxes and acceptance, while Si:72% prices stood at RMB 5,650-5,850/t ($844-874/t) exw.

Steady semi-coke prices continued to support production costs. However, ample supply and cautious steel mill buying limited trading activity, with most purchases focused on immediate requirements rather than large-scale restocking.

Market updates

Stable raw material prices support costs: Semi-coke prices showed little change, providing steady support to ferro silicon production costs. Production levels also remained broadly stable, keeping spot supply sufficient and prices largely unchanged.

Steel mills limit purchases to immediate needs: Steel mills continued to finalise tenders but showed little interest in large-scale restocking. Traders remained cautious, with most spot transactions linked to existing orders and no strong market driver to move prices.

Outlook

Ferro silicon prices are likely to remain largely stable in the near term. Stable raw material prices should support prices, while ample supply and limited steel mill buying may restrict gains. Production changes and steel mill tenders will be key factors to watch.
