China: Domestic coal prices rise to RMB 1,200/t despite NDRC cap

Rising demand for coal for building up inventory at power plants has lifted domestic NAR 5500 kcal/kg coal prices in China to RMB 1,200/t ($190/t). This comes despite economic planner NDRC setting a price guidance in the range of RMB 570-770/t ($90-122/t) at Qinhuangdao port for medium- and long-term contracts. Limited supply from Russia due to sanctions are likely to push traders to look for alternative supplies from Indonesia and South Africa.
