Daily coal truck movements to China from Mongolia have fallen to only around 200 per day (as on 17 Sep’21) after hitting a historical high of 2,233 trucks per day in late-Aug’20. The reason cited is increasing COVID-19 cases that led to the closure of the Ganqimaodu port in Inner Mongolia. Ganqimaodu is a land border port and is the largest channel for importing coal from Mongolia.
