The Chhattisgarh government has expressed willingness to buy state-owned miner NMDC’s steel plant in the tribal-dominated Bastar region of the state. The Centre in Oct ’20 had granted approval for demerger of the 3 mn t plant from NMDC to facilitate strategic disinvestment. As per reports, the Chhattisgarh government is keen to take over and run the plant rather than divesting it to a private company.
