Central Coalfields Ltd (CCL), the mining arm of CIL operating in the state of Jharkhand, has set a new benchmark for coal dispatch with highest ever single-day loading of 64 coal rakes recorded as on 23 Feb ’21.
Major contribution was provided by company’s Amrapali Chandragupta mining area which attained its highest ever rake loading of 16 rakes. Besides, it had also created a new record in term of coal dispatch with supply of 72,892 t.
Spurred by the recent surges in power consumption, the company has witnessed an increased demand for coal which was majorly affected due to COVID-19. Notably, electricity consumption in Eastern India continued its rising trend averaging 390 MU/day during 1-23 Feb ’21, which was 2% higher than 381 MU/day assessed in the month of January.
On the supply side, efforts have been made by CCL to augment dispatch via rail-mode. The company has prioritized customers having lower seniority but in need of faster supply instead of those who have deferred to take coal.
Nevertheless, the company has a lot of catching up to do, as its overall dispatch of 56.84 mn t for the fiscal as on 24 Feb ’21 remains 7% lower than the levels attained in the year-ago period.
