Canada Iron Ore Export Rises 8% in Oct’16

According to the trade statistics released by Canadian Customs, Canada, the 5th largest iron ore exporter has exported around 3.61 MnT iron ore in Oct’16.

Iron ore exports have registered a growth of 8% M-o-M as exports were around 3.34 MnT in Sep’16. However, country’s iron ore export have decreased marginally by 3.4% Y-o-Y basis.

In the first ten months of 2016, the country exported 34.10 MnT iron ore, up by the same proportion for the month that is 8% as the export was 31.54 MnT in the same consecutive period last year.

Iron OreIn Oct’16, the agglomerated iron ore (pellets and concentrate) exports were registered at 1.33 MnT, little higher compared to Sep’16. However, were down by 5.7% as it was 1.41 MnT in Oct’15.

The non-agglomerated iron ore (lumps & fines) exports were registered at 2.29 MnT in Oct’16, marginally up by 2.65% as it was 2.22 MnT in Sept’16. However, in Oct’15, non-agglomerated iron ore exports was registered at 2.34 MnT which was higher by 2.28%

  1. China was the largest iron ore importer for the month and imported 1.16 MnT iron ore jumping 256.6% in Oct’16 against 0.32 MnT in Sept’16. The nation imported 0.41 MnT iron ore in Oct’15.
  2. France remained the second largest iron ore importer of Canadian iron ore, importing 0.49 MnT iron ore against 0.62 MnT in Sept’16 though down by 20.8% M-o-M. The nation had imported 0.68 MnT iron ore in the month of Oct’15.
  3. Japan turned out to be third largest iron ore importer and 0.30 MnT was imported in the month of Oct’16, down by 70% as it was 1.01 MnT in Sept’16. The nation had imported 0.72 MnT iron ore in Oct’15.
