Canada Iron Ore Export Down by 22% in Sept’16

According to the trade statistics released by Canadian Customs, Canada, the 5th largest iron ore exporter has exported around 3.26 MnT iron ore in Sept’16 .

Iron ore exports have registered a downfall of 22% M-o-M as exports were around 4.17 MnT in Aug’16. On similar lines, Canadian iron ore export has decreased significantly by 14% Y-o-Y basis.

In the first nine months of 2016, the country exported 30.2 MnT iron ore, up by 9% as it was 27.7 MnT in the same consecutive period last year.

In Sept’16, the agglomerated iron ore (pellets and concentrate) exports were registered at 1.12 MnT, stable as compared to Aug’16. However, were down by 22% as it was 1.44 MnT in Sept’15.

The non-agglomerated iron ore (lumps & fines) exports were registered at 2.14 MnT in Sept’16, significantly down by 30% as it was 3.05 MnT in Aug’16. However, in Sept’15, non-agglomerated iron ore exports was registered at 2.37 MnT.

  1. Japan, largest iron ore importer has imported 1.01 MnT in the month of Sept’16, up by 0.2% as it was 0.50 MnT in Aug’16. The nation imported 0.48 MnT iron ore in Sept’15.
  2. France turned out to be the second largest iron ore importer of Canadian iron ore, imported 0.62 MnT iron ore against 0.17 MnT in Aug’16. The nation imported 0.26 MnT in the month of Sept’15.
  3. China turned out to be the 3rd largest iron ore importer and imported 0.32 MnT iron ore in Sept’16 against 1.72 MnT in Aug’16. The nation imported 1.10 MnT iron ore in Sept’15.
