Brazil Steel Exports Statistics – May 2019

Brazil, the world’s second-largest Semi finished exporter, has exported about 782,431 MT Semi finished (Slab & Pig iron) in May’19, plunge by 13% M-o-M, as per custom data maintained by SteelMint.

Brazil has exported about 587,597 MT slab in May’19, declined by 19.3% M-o-M as against 728,025 MT in Apr’19. While on yearly premises it increase by 54.2% as against 381,097 MT in May’18.

During May’19, United States has imported approximately 58.46% (343,557 MT) slab, fall by 47.69% M-o-M against 656,816 MT in Apr’19.

In May’19, the major export of Slabs were from the ports of Itaguai (232,262 MT), Fortaleza Porto (195,432 MT) & Vitoria (158,605 MT). While approximately 42.86% of exports were done from the port of Vitoria till May in CY19.

In the total slab exports during CY19 (Jan-May), the most favourable export destination of Brazilian slab was – United States (1,991,446 MT), Italy (191,287 MT), Mexico (190,842 MT), Dominican Republic (149,127 MT) & Germany (107,541 MT).

The export offers of 150*150 IS 2830 grade billet are currently at USD 420-425/MT FoB India, 150*150 Q235 are at USD 470-475/MT FoB China & 125*125 3sp at USD 425-430/MT FoB Ukraine.

Brazil’s pig iron exports increased by about 13.8% M-o-M in May’19 & reported at around 194,834 MT against the last month (Apr’19) at 171,220 MT.

Inline on yearly premises the exports registered an increase of more than 100% in May’19 against 92,101 MT in May’18.

During May’19, the most favourable export destination of Brazilian pig iron was – United States (115,068 MT) & Mexico (76,670 MT).

In Jan-May’19, the Nation’s pig iron exports were recorded at 981,047 MT, which was 769,215 MT during same the period of CY18, incline by 27.53% Y-o-Y, as per SteelMint Stats.

The pig iron exports from the nation rise over fall in prices by USD 10-15/MT in May’19 & remained firm at USD 320-322/MT FoB Brazil.

As per our last assessment, the global export prices for basic grade Pig iron is assessed at USD 324-326/MT FoB Brazil & USD 370-375/MT FoB India.

Brazil Iron ore exports increase sharply in May’19: Brazil has recorded iron ore export volumes at 29.02 MnT in May’19, up 58% as compared to Apr’19 exports at 18.34 MnT, according to trade statistics released by Brazil customs. On yearly basis, exports dropped 16% as compared to 34.62 MnT in May’18.

Brazil iron ore exports have picked up amid rising demand from China and easing supply concerns from Vale.

Brazil Manganese Ore exports shot up in May’19: Brazilian Manganese Ore exports inflated by 100% from 0.1 MnT in Apr’19 to 0.2 MnT in May’19. Prices were reduced by around 8% in May’19 as compared to the previous month to lure Chinese buyer. Despite lower prices, imports from China further reduced in May. However, Uruguay, India, Mexico, and Argentina increased its imports of Manganese Ore from Brazil. Imports of Brazilian Manganese Ore by India increased by 0.02 MnT and similarly imports by Mexico increased by 0.03 MnT. Meanwhile, China remained the leading importer of Manganese Ore in the month of May’19 with 0.1 MnT quantity, followed by Uruguay, India, and Mexico.
