Brazil Slab Exports Hit All Time High in October

Brazil, the world’s second-largest Semi finished exporter, has exported about 1,050,542 MT Slabs in Oct’18, which is all time high as per custom.

As per fresh released data by custom – in Oct 2018, Brazil’s slab exports stood as the highest since data available with SteelMint from Jan 2010. Also, the Oct’18 figures rise by 90.44% M-o-M as against 551,613 MT in Sep’18, in line surge by 18.24% Y-o-Y against 888,468 MT in Oct’17.

During Oct 2018, United States has imported approximately 69.24% (727,406 MT) slabs & continues to remain the largest slab buyer of Brazil. And it was noticed that slab export to US rise sharply in Oct’18 by around 62% as against 449,459 MT in Sep’18. Inline the other largest importer of Brazil originated slab was Turkey (60,624 MT), Canada (52,403 MT), Dominican Republic (48,767 MT) & Mexico (35,530 MT).

Further it was also come in line that, no major Brazilian slab exports to South Korea, Belgium & Poland was seen in Oct’18.

In the total slab exports during CY18 (Jan-Oct), the most favourable export destination of Brazilian slab was – United States (3,203,877 MT), Turkey (457,546 MT), Germany (301,863 MT) & Dominican Republic (301,809 MT).

In Oct, the major export of slabs were from the ports of Itaguai (431,426 MT), Fortaleza Porto (2386,537 MT) & Vitoria (205,056 MT). While approximately 31% of exports were done from the port of Vitoria till Oct’18.

— In the month of Sep’18, the crude steel production of Brazil was around 3.03 MnT and in CY18 (Jan-Sep) it was approximately 25.94 MnT. Meanwhile, in CY17 the figure of crude steel production stood at 34.40 MnT, & 30.21 MnT in CY16, according to the World Steel Association.

— Brazil Iron ore & pellet export incline by 9.37% M-o-M in Oct’18 & stood at 37,199,596 MT as against 33,903,928 MT in Sep’18

— Recently the Brazil’s slab export offers rise by USD 10/MT(W-o-W) & stood at around USD 500-510/MT FoB.

— The export offers of 150*150 IS 2830 grade billet are currently at USD 455-465/MT FoB India, 125*125 3SP at USD 450-460/MT FoB Ukraine & 150*150 Q235 are at USD 510-520/MT FoB China.
