Brazil Slab Exports Drop 60% M-o-M in Apr’17

Brazil – world’s 11th largest steel exporter in CY15 has witnessed drop in slab exports last month. Semi-finished steel account for the largest share in Brazil steel exports and in CY16 they occupied share of 63% (~ 6.3 MnT).

In CY16, Brazil exported 5.91 MnT slabs compared to 6.59 MnT in previous year.

According to preliminary custom data, Brazil’s slab export witnessed a fall of 60%, M-o-M basis to 0.29 MnT in Apr’17 as compared to previous month. In Mar’17’ the same stood at 0.72 MnT .

On yearly basis, Brazil slab exports plunged by 22% in Apr’17 against 0.37 MnT in Apr’16.

However, in duration of Jan-Apr of 2017 the nation has shipped 2.31 MnT, up by 29% against 1.79 MnT in the similar time period of previous year.

Country-wise Brazil slab exports in Apr’17 –

In Apr’17, United States continued to remain the most preferred destination for Brazil slab exports and imported 0.15 MnT, down by 48% M-o-M. Other preferred destinations were France (0.04 MnT), Sri Lanka (0.03 MnT) and Germany (0.02 MnT).

Brazil’s CSP slab exports cross 1.5 MnT mark – Brazil’s CSP has recorded shipments of 0.91 MnT slab during Jan-Apr’17. For May’17 company expects to ship over 0.3 MnT as per reports. Main destinations for exports remained US, Turkey, Italy, Thailand etc.

Slab export offers from CIS countries are range of USD 400-410/MT on FoB Black Sea. Slab export offers from Latin America are assessed in the range of USD 410-420/MT, FoB basis.

However, import offers from South East Asian Countries are in the range of USD 415-420/MT,CFR basis.
