SteelMint glanced through the latest yearly report of the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR). Highlights:
- China consumed 220.3 mn t of ferrous scrap in CY’20, up 2% against 215.9 mn t in CY’19.
- Turkey, the world’s leading scrap importer, recorded 8% rise in scrap consumption to 30.07 mn t in CY’20 compared to 27.90 mn t in the previous year.
- South Korea witnessed lower ferrous scrap consumption in CY’20 at 25.83 mn t – a y-o-y decline of 10% as against the same period last year.
