Bangladesh Bulk Import fall in Jan’18

Bangladesh is an emerging market and the import of steel and raw material plays an important role as the country is highly dependent on them. As per bulk vessel lineup data, total 15 bulk vessels discharged at Chittagong (Bangladesh) port in Jan’18 against 18 bulk vessels in Dec’17.

As per data maintained by SteelMint, major bulk import was seen in coal (6 vessel), scrap (3 vessel) and HR Coil (2 vessel) and one pig iron vessel discharged in Jan’18. Two vessels of scrap, one vessel of pig iron and HBI expected to be discharged in Feb’18.

More scrap import vessel expected to report by the end of Feb’18, as two bulk cargo booked by the Bangladesh steel mills for around USD 393 -395/MT on CFR basis.

SteelMint Analysis for January Bulk Import

1.Coal Import fall by 43% M-o-M owing to high price and congestion at RBCT (SA) and Indonesian port.

2.Coal import from Indonesia fall by 27% M-o-M and no import shipment recorded from RBCT in January

3.Scrap import fall by 38% M-o-M, expected to increase next month supported by fall in global prices and less inventory by steel mills in Bangladesh.

4.Pig iron vessel of 25,000 MT from Mormugao port (India), shipper Vedanta discharged at Chittagong port on 30 Jan’18. One 25,000 MT vessel of RINL expected to discharge in first week of Feb’18.

5.In Jan 31,200 MT HBI imported from Malaysia, one more vessel of 55,000 MT from Russia expected to discharge in first week of Feb’18.
