Baltic dry index falls on sharp Capesize losses despite strength in smaller segments

The Baltic Dry Index fell by 2.61% (42 points) d-o-d to 1,566 on 14 Jan’26. The decline was Capesize-led, driven by softer major bulk demand and increased tonnage supply, while resilience in smaller vessel provided only limited support.

  • Capesize: BCI fell 5.07% (124 points) to 2,322.
  • Panamax: BPI rose 0.75% (10 points) to 1,341.
  • Supramax: BSI inched up 0.11% (1 points) to 953.
