The world’s largest export terminal, Western Australia’s Port Hedland exported 41.6 MnT iron ore in Oct’16 according to Pilbara port authority data.
The volume of exports slightly decreased by 0.4% M-o-M from Port Hedland as compared to 41.8 MnT in Sept’16. On the contrary, exports rose by 14% in Oct’16 as it was 36.5 MnT in the same consecutive month last year.
In first 10 months of 2016, iron ore exports from Port Hedland was recorded at 393.6 MnT, up by 6% as compared to 370.8 MnT in the same period last year.
China always remained as the largest destination of iron ore shipped from Port Hedland. However, the port data did not showed the breakup for quantity of iron ore exported to different destinations in the month of Oct’16. In Sept’16, the Port Hedland exported 35.5 MnT iron ore.
Port Hedland has delivered a total throughput of around 446 MnT iron ore in 2015 and 414 MnT in 2014. BHP Billiton and FMG (Fortescue Metals Group) exports iron ore mainly from Australia’s Port Hedland, while Rio Tinto ships through Port Dampier.
