Australian Iron Ore Export Rise by 9% in Aug’16

Trade statistics released from Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that world’s largest iron ore exporter, Australia exported around 71.56 MnT iron ore in Aug’16.

Iron ore exports have witnessed a growth of 9% M-o-M as it was 65.73 MnT in Jul’16. On similar lines, Australian iron ore exports grew by 6% on Y-o-Y basis as it was 67.53 MnT in Aug’15.

During the first eight months of 2016, the country exported 527.17 MnT iron ore, up by 5% Y-o-Y as 502 MnT iron ore was exported from the country in the same period prior this year.

Australian Port Hedland exports around 70% of total Australian iron ore exports. In Aug’16, exports from the Port was registered at 42.8 MnT, up by 10.5% M-o-M and 9.4% Y-o-Y.

The non-agglomerated iron ore (lumps and fines) export in Aug’16 was registered at 71.41 MnT, up by 9% M-o-M. and 6.5% Y-o-Y.   • China imports around 80% of total Australian iron ore. In Aug’16, the country imported 58.7 MnT iron ore, up by 6.5% M-o-M. However, on Y-o-Y basis, country’s imports from Australia grew by 3.5% as it was 56.43 MnT in Aug’15. 
  • Japan, the second-largest iron ore imports have imported 6.63 MnT iron ore in Aug’16. Country’s imports from Australia moved up by 14.1% M-o-M. The nation imported 6.10 MnT iron ore in Aug’15. 
  • South Korea, the third-largest iron ore importer has imported 4.86 MnT iron ore in Aug’16, up by 29.4% M-o-M and 21.5% Y-o-Y. 
  • Taiwan, the fourth largest iron ore importer has imported 1.30 MnT iron ore in Aug’16, down by 3.8% M-o-M and up by 4.5% Y-o-Y.
