Anthracite coal imports into India have remained low in Jun’16 as import affinity among buyers in the country was at the lowest.
During Jun’16, 160,400 MT of Anthracite coal was imported into the country, data compiled by SteelMint Research shows. The import quantity during the month, however, was higher by around 220% than that in the previous month.

However, the higher import during Jun’16 does not imply that there was any strengthening of demand in the country. Not many buyers in the country had imported during the month under consideration, as evident from the imported quantity itself. Arya Iron, Rawmet Commodities, Electrosteel, Rashmi Metaliks, Indian Metal and Ferro Alloys, Bharat Chemical and Essar Steel were the only importers during Jun’16.
Demand has continued to remain sluggish as buyers preferred cheaper alternate fuels, like Petcoke and other forms of coal, which are available abundantly.
In the meantime, import offers have remained stable from that in the last week. The latest import offers from Russia are assessed stable at around USD 94/MT CFR India.
