The Anthracite Coal market has remained muted in India as there was almost no affinity among the users to import the fuel. Users preferred alternate fuels over the coal that had eroded the demand.
Global offers have sunk recently due to the falling trend exhibited by Coking Coal prices. The latest global offers for Anthracite Coal are assessed at around USD 130/MT CFR India. There has been no change on a week-on-week basis.

As there is almost no affinity for the coal in India, imports have remained insignificant. In Oct’17 only one importer—JSW Steel—had imported the coal, of 123,200 MT in quantity. Compared to the imports of 138,500 MT in Sep’17, the imports in the tenth month of the current year were lower by around 11 MT. On a year-on-year comparison, the Oct’17 imports were up by around 32 MT over the imports of 93,440 MT in Oct’16.

There is also no prospect for the imports to go up as the demand in the country will not strengthen.
