The international Anthracite Coal prices have not drifted downwards despite the declining Coking Coal prices as prices of pellets hovering at high rates. Notably, Indian pellets are gaining high popularity in China as steel, pellet and sinter productions are being reduced in that country to curb air pollution. Due to the domestic supply shortage, prices of pellets are at high rates in China.
The latest Anthracite Coal international offers are assessed at around USD 135/MT CFR India, almost unchanged from the offers in the week last.

In India, demand for Anthracite Coal has remained sluggish as the users preferred alternate fuels over the coal. Also, there is no prospect for the demand for Anthracite Coal to improve in India in the future.
During the first two weeks of Oct’17, only one import consignment pertaining to Anthracite Coal had landed at an Indian port. According to the data compiled by CoalMint Research, JSW Steel had imported 82,500 MT of Anthracite Coal from Russia during the period.
