Africa: Kamoa-Kakula to become world’s third largest copper complex

  • Canadian miner Ivanhoe Mines has announced that the phase 3 expansion of the Kamoa-Kakula copper project in Congo will increase production to 600,000 t per year by Q4 2024. The complex is set to become Africa’s largest and the world’s third largest copper mine after Escondida and Grasberg.
  • The phase 3 expansion will consist of a new 5 mnt/year concentrator adjacent to the two new underground mines, Kamoa 1 and Kamoa 2.
