Afghanistan hikes coal export prices as demand from Pakistan surge

Amid Pakistan’s rising demand for Afghan coal, the Taliban administration has more than doubled export prices to $200/t from $90/t earlier in a bid to raise revenue and shrink its budget deficit after being cut off from international aid. This hike in prices is expected to weigh on Pakistan’s import demand as elevated global prices had compelled the government to turn to the neighbouring Afghanistan and use its local Pakistani currency to save foreign reserves.
