SCCL: Coal Dispatch to Power Plants Up 18% Y-o-Y in Jul’17

Singareni Collieries Company Ltd’s (SCCL) coal dispatch to power plants has increased 18% Y-o-Y to 4.1 MnT in Jul’17. The company had dispatched 3.5 MnT coal in Jul’16. While on the monthly basis, coal dispatch to power sector remains almost constant from 4.1 MnT in Jun’17, as per the data released by Ministry of Coal.

Coal produced by SCCL is mainly supplied to the neighboring states’ power plant, with NTPC Ramagundam, T-GENCO power utilities of Telangana state, Karnataka Power Corporation of Karnataka and Parli power station of MAHAGENCO are among its 4 major consumers.

Apart from the power utilities, coal from SCCL is also supplied to cement industry, captive power plants and sponge iron units through Fuel Supply Agreements.

During the first 4 months of FY18 (Apr’17-Jul’17), SCCL’s coal dispatch to power plants has increased 11% Y-o-Y to 17.1 MnT compared with 15.3 MnT in Apr’16-Jul’16.

Coal E-Auction Results:
SCCL had conducted E-Auction for the sales of 332000 MT coal in Jul’17. The auction received better response among the buyers, as 210603 MT coal quantity was sold during the auctions, accounting 63% of the total offered quantity.

In the Rail mode of auctions, all the 20 rakes (81000 MT) offered for sale was allotted during the auction. While in Road mode, only 51.6% of the offered 25100 MT coal was allotted.

Moreover, Coal from Vakilpalli and Khairguda mines failed to attract even a single buyer, as all the offered quantity of these mines remain unsold.

The average reserve price for coal quantities offered in Road auctions was INR 2389.96/MT, while the average winning price was INR 2509.87/MT. Thus, SCCL managed to gain 5% increase over the reserve price in these auction.
