Indian Manganese Ore Imports Down by 7% in Jun’17

India imported around 0.25 MnT of Manganese Ore in Jun’17 against 0.27 MnT in May’17.

According to Customs data, Indian Manganese Ore import has gone down marginally by 7% M-o-M to 0.25 MnT in Jun’17, as compared to 0.27 MnT in May’17.

On Y-o-Y basis, India’s Manganese Ore imports rose by a massive 56% in Jun’17 against Jun’16. In Jun’16 the same stood at 0.16 MnT.

India relies heavily on Manganese Ore imports, and half of its Manganese Ore requirement is fulfilled through imported Ore. South Africa remained the largest exporter of Manganese Ore to India in Jun’17 at 0.17 MnT followed Australia and Gabon at 0.05 MnT and 0.03 MnT.

South Africa witnessed a decrease of 11% M-o-M in its Manganese Ore exports to India in Jun’17, owing to its production curtailment in the winter months in the said country.

East-Coast based, Vishakhapatnam and Kolkata port handles the majority of Manganese Ore shipments, and same is the case in Jun’17.
