Chinese Chrome Ore Imports substantially up by 67% in May’17

China imported around 1.2 MnT of Chrome Ore in May’17 against 0.72 MnT in Apr’17.

According to Customs data, Chinese Chrome Ore import has substantially gone up by 67% M-o-M to 1.2 MnT in May’17 as compared to 0.72 MnT in Apr’17.

Moreover, on Y-o-Y basis, China’s Chrome Ore imports are up by 33% in May’17 against May’16. In May’16 the same stood at 0.9 MnT.

China relies heavily on Chrome Ore imports, and most of its Chrome Ore requirement is fulfilled through imported Ore. South Africa remained the largest exporter of Chrome Ore to China in May’17 at 0.85 MnT followed Turkey and Albania at 0.09 MnT and 0.04 MnT. South African Chrome Ore export to China rise significantly by 81% M-o-M in May’17.
