AI scrap inspection firm EVERSTEEL, backed by Japanese trading company Mitsui & Co., has signed a joint research agreement with resource recycling company Kokko to develop AI-based systems aimed at improving operational efficiency and digitalisation across steel scrap recycling operations.
The collaboration will combine EVERSTEEL’s AI image-recognition and analysis technology with Kokko’s on-site digitalisation initiatives to develop systems addressing challenges in sales, factory operations and logistics.
The agreement marks EVERSTEEL’s first joint research project with a steel scrap industry participant. The company aims to expand its technology beyond AI-based scrap inspection for electric-furnace steelmakers into waste management and resource-circulation applications. The research will focus on two areas: optimising sales and administrative operations, and improving factory and logistics management.
The initiative is expected to reduce administrative workloads, improve operational efficiency and allow employees to spend more time on sales activities. The companies also aim to support more data-driven sales strategies and improve resource management across recycling operations.
