Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) is crafting out ambitious plans for its future course of operations. As part of the plans, SCCL aims to raise its annual production target to 90 MnT by FY21. To attain the higher production target, 20 opencast as well as 11 underground mines will be developed by the company. SCCL, jointly owned by the Telangana and the central governments, hitherto produces around 60 MnT of coal annually.
In addition to raising its coal production target, the company is trying to expand its footprints globally. SCCL officials visited countries, like Australia, South Africa, Indonesia, China, Germany, France, Britain and Canada to explore opportunities. In a positive note, 13 companies across the world exuded interest to partner SCCL in its overseas operations; but the matter is kept in a low key for the time being due to the fall in coal prices globally.
Within its home country, SCCL has already expanded its operations beyond its home state-Telangana. SCCL had already commenced operations in a coal block at the Naini mines in Odisha. The coal block was allocated to the company by the centre.
SCCL also plans to set up another thermal plant, which will bear 800 MW of capacity, shortly. The company already has a 1,200 MW thermal power plant, which went on-stream in Aug’16.
Of the 60 MnT of its coal production, 78.71% is used for thermal power generation. SCCL has 46 mines, out of which 30 are underground and the rest 16 are opencast mines.
