- UAE’s largest aluminium recycling plant commissioned
- Global recycling capacity surpasses 400,000 t/year
Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has inaugurated the UAE’s largest aluminium recycling plant at Al Taweelah, marking a significant step in expanding the country’s circular economy and low-carbon aluminium production. The facility has an annual recycling capacity of 185,000 tonnes and will process primarily post-consumer aluminium scrap into premium billets and T-bars marketed under EGA’s RevivAL product line.
The project enables more aluminium scrap generated within the UAE to be processed domestically, reducing dependence on overseas recyclers and strengthening the local aluminium value chain. The recycled metal will also be blended with EGA’s solar-powered and nuclear-powered primary aluminium to produce lower-carbon products for global customers.
The Al Taweelah plant began producing recycled aluminium in February 2026. Although final commissioning was temporarily delayed following the March attack on Khalifa Economic Zone Abu Dhabi, operations resumed in April, with production restarting in early May. The facility is expected to reach full capacity within six months, subject to scrap availability.
The inauguration also advances EGA’s global recycling strategy. Including facilities in Germany and the United States, and the planned acquisition of an 80% stake in Italy-based recycler Eco Green, EGA’s recycling capacity now exceeds 400,000 t/y, with another 200,000 t/y under development across Europe and the US.
The expansion reflects increasing industry focus on recycled aluminium as manufacturers seek lower-carbon raw materials and strengthen circular supply chains.
