Bangladesh: Textile mills announce indefinite shutdown from 1 Feb

The Bangladesh Textile Mills Association has announced an indefinite closure of all textile mills from 1 Feb, citing an inability to service bank loans as industry capital has halved. The move follows proposed curbs on duty-free yarn imports, which exporters warn could raise yarn costs by $0.30-0.60/kg and threaten Bangladesh’s $28 billion knitwear exports.
