Coking Coal Imports to India Up by 21% in October

India has imported 4.7 MnT of coking coal this month.  SAIL, among all major players, was the top importer for the month and had imported about 1.2 MnT of coking coal in Oct’15.

India, one of the significant players in coking coal imports has imported about 4.7 MnT of coking coal in Oct’15 against 3.7 MnT in Sep’15. After witnessing decline in import,  last month, imports have spurt up registering a growth of 21% in Oct’15. According to SteelMint’s research the quantity imported in Oct’15 is the highest in FY16.

Australia exported highest quantity of 3.9 MnT of coking coal to India in Oct’15 against 3.3 MnT in Oct’15.

It should be noted that domestic production has been continuously rising in India as a move to meet the coal demand. CIL has produced 44.3 MnT of coal in Oct’15.  Amid of centre’s effort to fulfil coal demand in the country from indigenous coal, the imports have increased. The major reason being the absence of desired grade from indigenous sources.
