Coking Coal Imports to India Down Again in Sept’15

Declining prices failed to catalyze coking coal imports to India in Sept’15. The country imported about 8% less coking coal in Sept’15 against previous month.

According to SteelMint’s latest assessment, the country imported about 3.9 MnT of coking coal in Sept’15 against 4.2 MnT in Aug’15. Coking coal import to India witnessed a downfall of 8% M-o-M in Sept’15. Whereas, imports increased by about 9% Y-o-Y.

As per SteelMint’s data analysis, non-coking coal imports to India had also fallen by 11% to 10.9 MnT against 12.3 MnT in Aug’15. Whereas, Pet coke imports had dropped by 64%. Total coal imports to India fell by 11.2% M-o-M in Sept’15.

Australia exported highest quantity of 3.3 MnT coking coal to India in the month.

In the month of Sept’15, SAIL emerged as the top importer with 0.9 MnT of coking coal import; registering a downfall in coking coal imports by 31% against Aug’15. Whereas, JSW Steel imported about 0.7 MnT of coking coal in Sept’15.
