Anthracite Coal Imports into India Plunge in Sept’15

Anthracite Coal imports into India continue exhibiting a descending trend during Sept’15, in which, the imports declined by 32 per cent, to 29,300 MT, against 43,200 MT in Aug’15. The fall in the imports resulted mainly on account of weak demand conditions prevailing in the country.

Notably, the imports during Sept’15 were the second lowest during the first half of the prevailing fiscal, after May’15, in which, the imports were recorded at 22,000 MT.

The highest import consignment during the current fiscal was recorded at 100,250 MT in Apr’15, according to SteelMint data; subsequently, the imports saw a notable improvement in July’15, during which, 58,700 MT was imported.

The total imports during the first half of FY16 stand at 286,450 MT. SteelMint data also shows that the imports during FY15 increased to 730,000 MT from 704,000 MT in FY14.
