Russian activity halted on Worldsteel platform

The World Steel Association (WSA) will temporarily halt cooperation with Russian steel producers from June 16, WSA said recently.

“In order to comply with the latest round of EU sanctions against Russia coming into force on Thursday, 16 June, our Russian members have agreed to voluntarily withdraw from our activities while the sanctions remain in place,” the Association said.

Russian members will have no access to WSA platforms and activities, WSA noted. “We have not expelled or suspended our Russian members, rather we have come to a mutually satisfactory arrangement with them, where they voluntarily and temporarily becoming ‘passive members’,” the Association added.

“All access to our platforms will be reinstated when EU law allows for this,” WSA concluded.

This could indicate that Russian crude steel production figures may not be included in WSA reports in the foreseeable future.
