China starts 8 power units at mega hydropower station

Out of 16, half of the units at China’s Baihetan hydropower station have begun formal operations. The mega-project has a total installed capacity of 16 million kilowatts. Once fully operational, the hydropower station will generate over 62.4 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity every year, which may replace about 19.7 mnt of coal usage and reduce carbon emissions by about 52 mnt.
