Portside trades of South African thermal coal remained weak today as RB2 (5500 kcal/kg NAR) offers remained firm at INR 23,000/t at Gangavaram Port. Bids from the sponge iron manufacturers, however, were few and far between as they awaited clarity on pellet prices going ahead and the impact on sponge iron prices following the sharp rise in export duty on steelmaking raw materials.
