South Korea’s steel demand suffered mildly from the pandemic and experienced a sound recovery in 2020-21, backed by solid export performance and corporate investments, despite a contraction seen in construction activity. The strong Covid wave in Q1CY’22 did not seem to impact economic activities seriously. Moderate growth in steel demand is expected in 2022-23 due to limited growth in automotive, despite improving demand from construction and shipbuilding sectors.
