South African RB1 (NAR 6000 kcal/kg) coal prices for Apr’22 deliveries plunged $48/t d-o-d to $278/t FOB on 15 Mar. Prices fell sharply in line with the decline in crude oil and other energy commodity prices following the ceasefire talks between Russia and Ukraine and rising fear of Covid-induced lockdowns in China. Also, higher prices have led to buyers across the globe retreating to the sidelines, thereby impacting prices.
