India’s iron ore production increased sharply by around 20% year-on-year in 2021 to 246.3 million tonnes (mnt). Production in 2020 had fallen to around 206 mnt. The impressive production figure in 2021 was possible due to a 24% surge in output from Odisha. Production from Odisha was recorded at nearly 138 mnt compared to a little over 110 mnt in 2020. Odisha’s share in the country’s overall iron ore production stands at 56%.
