Global trading giant Glencore to close three Australian coal mines

As part of the company’s decision in 2020 to cut Australian coal production due to lower prices, Glencore is set to close its three mines by end of 2023. The leading global trading house will close down the Newlands mine in Queensland, which produces 5.5 mn t of coal, and thermal coal mines in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales with a capacity of 6.5 mn t.
