India: Gangavaram Port to receive largest share of thermal coal between 9-30 Jun’21

The vessel–line-up data (as on 12 June’21) maintained with CoalMint reveals that a total volume of 5.25 million tonnes (mn t) of thermal coal will arrive at Indian ports between 9-30 Jun’21 from various origins.

  • Gangavaram replaced Krishnapatnam this week as the port to receive the highest volume of thermal coal of 0.80 mn t with 0.33 mn t coming from South Africa, 0.38 mn t from Indonesia, and 88,000 t from Australia.
  • Adani Enterprise has the highest shipment of 0.71 mn t arriving at Gangavaram Port from South Africa (0.33 mn t) and from Indonesia (0.38 mn t).
  • Following Gangavaram, Krishnapatnam Port is to receive the second-highest volume of 0.79 mn t of thermal coal with the maximum quantity (0.45 mn t) coming from Australia followed by the US (0.13 mn t) and Indonesia (70,730 t).
  • Mundra Port is the next highest receiver of thermal coal at 0.60 mn t with 0.12 mn t arriving from the US, 0.15 mn t from Australia and 0.16 mn t from Indonesia and Russia each.

Highest quantity coming from Indonesia

Out of the total volume of thermal coal arriving from various countries, the highest is coming from Indonesia at 1.45 mn t followed by Australia at 1.42 mn t.

In case of vessels arriving from Indonesia, the highest volume is for Adani Enterprise at 0.93 mn t followed by II&FS Tamil Nadu Power at 0.13 mn t and Agarwal Coal at 90,000 t.

  • For South African coal, Adani Enterprise has booked the highest quantity of 0.49 mn t, arriving at Gangavaram and Dhamra ports, followed by Rashmi Group’s vessel of 0.16 mn t at Dhamra Port. At Ennore Port, 0.11 mn t of South African coal is coming for Rayalaseema.
  • For vessels arriving from Australia, the highest quantity has been booked by Semb Corp Gayathri Power at 0.28 mn t followed by JSW Energy at 0.22 mn t.

Adani Enterprise continues to tops buyers’ list for second week

Adani Enterprise tops the list of buyers with 1.42 mn t of thermal coal expected to arrive at Indian ports from Indonesia (0.38 mn t) and South Africa (0.33 mn t).

This is followed by Semb Corp Gayathri Power whose thermal coal vessels are arriving from Australia (0.28 mn t), and Indonesia (70,730 t).
