India: Odisha Government to halt Minerals Movement on General Elections

  • State officials directed to halt free transport of minerals for 16 days
  • Supply of Iron ore, Manganese ore & Chrome ore will hit temporarily

The state authorities have enforced 16 day (05-20 Apr, 2014) ban on movement of ore-laden trucks along NH-5 (A) and NH 215, the key road connecting mineral belts of Joda, Barbil, Keonjhar, Koira & Jajpur. It may be noted that transportation will halt in Sundergarh district on 05 Apr, 2014 and similar action will be implemented in Keonjhar district on 10 Apr, 2014.

Election Commission – Odisha Notice

A letter is issued on 03 Apr, 2014 by Election Commission’s officer stating that minerals transportation will be on a complete halt in order to ensure smooth polling in the state. General elections and State Assembly elections is going to held in the state in the month of April.

Instructions were issued to the Collectors of Jajpur, Keonjhar & Sundargarh district to stop ore loading activity during the prohibition period. The state mining directorate has also been directed to ensure that no mining activity takes place during this period.
