Edwin Basson,
director-general of the World Steel Association, tells Steel Business Briefing that he is optimistic that there wills no need
for further capacity reductions in Europe in 2012.
“European mills have already cut capacities and we think no further cuts
are necessary,” Basson says, adding that some mills idled last year has
already been re-started. Overall in Europe, as previously reported, apparent
steel demand in 2012 is forecast to increase by 2.5% compared with 2011.
