- Double Polish and White Rice Prices Edge Higher
- Parboiled Segment Shows Mixed Regional Trends
Rice prices across key West African markets showed a steady upward trend during the week of 7-10 April 2026, led by firm demand in Benin. Double Polish rice, a key premium segment, increased from around $599 per tonne on 7 April to $607 per tonne by 9–10 April, indicating sustained buying interest and limited downward pressure. Similarly, white rice prices in Benin moved up gradually from $546 to $554 per tonne over the same period, reflecting consistent retail demand and stable supply flows.
The upward movement across these core categories suggests that buyers remained active despite global uncertainties, with traders able to pass on marginal price increases. The stability observed toward the end of the week indicates that the market may be approaching a temporary equilibrium at current price levels.
In contrast, the parboiled rice segment displayed a more varied trend across markets. On 7 April, parboiled rice prices stood at $549 per tonne in Niger, while bulk deals in Burkina Faso were recorded at a significantly higher $607 per tonne, highlighting the premium associated with large-volume transactions. By 9 April, parboiled prices in Benin were noted at $546 per tonne, indicating a relatively stable but slightly softer trend compared to premium white rice segments.
Overall, while white rice and Double Polish categories experienced consistent gains, the parboiled segment remained range-bound with variations driven by country-specific demand and contract sizes. The week’s price movements underline steady demand fundamentals across West Africa, with selective strength in premium grades.
