- Silico manganese prices edge up on tight supply
- Noble alloys show mixed price movements
The Indian ferro-alloys market remained largely stable in the week ended 22 August 2026, with cautious buying keeping prices steady.
Silico manganese: Limited availability supports prices
Silico manganese prices remained largely stable during the week, edging up by INR 150/t ($2/t) to INR 72,900-73,900/t ($762-772/t) across key regions. Limited availability of low-priced material continued to support the market, while key producers remained largely booked through August. Spot availability also remained relatively tight.
Firm export inquiries, easing ocean freight rates, and improved container availability strengthened seller confidence, reducing the likelihood of aggressive price cuts. Smelters continued to strategically manage production in line with prevailing demand and supply conditions, helping prevent excess spot availability. Firming steel prices further supported domestic silico manganese prices.
Export offers for both 60-14 and 65-16 grades also edged up marginally.
Ferro manganese: Market remains balanced
Ferro manganese prices declined marginally by INR 200/t ($2/t) w-o-w to INR 78,300-78,400/t ($818-819/t) exw in Durgapur and Raipur. Despite the slight correction, the market remained largely stable, supported by balanced supply-demand conditions and limited pressure from sellers.
Manganese ore: Prices hold steady
Imported manganese ore prices remained unchanged w-o-w. Australian Mn46% was assessed at $5.28/dmtu, while Gabonese Mn44% stood at $5/dmtu and South African Mn37% at $4.27/dmtu.
Stable ore prices continued to provide a relatively steady raw material cost environment for manganese alloy producers.
Ferro chrome: Market awaits auction direction
Ferro chrome prices remained broadly stable w-o-w, easing by INR 100/t ($1/t) to INR 119,000/t ($1,243/t) exw-Jajpur. Market participants remained in a wait-and-watch mode ahead of the latest OMC chrome ore auction.
OMC offered 104,700 t of chrome ore, of which 68,800 t was booked on 19 August. Bids declined by 1-2% (INR 141-566/t) m-o-m for the majority of grades, while a few grades recorded increases of 1-4% (INR 236-884/t). Despite softer bids across most grades, premiums over the base price increased by up to 5% (INR 100-1,400/t).
Ferro silicon: Prices stable amid supportive demand
Ferro silicon prices remained unchanged w-o-w at INR 87,600/t ($915/t) in Guwahati and INR 87,100/t ($910/t) in Bhutan. End-user demand remained supportive, while most producers in northeast India and Bhutan were either sold out or focused on fulfilling previously booked orders, limiting spot trade activity.
Improving stainless steel sentiment and limited willingness among producers to reduce offers also helped maintain price stability.
Noble alloys: Ferro vanadium strengthens
Among noble alloys, ferro molybdenum and ferro titanium prices remained stable w-o-w at INR 4,359,000/t ($45,549/t) exw and INR 365,000/t ($3,814/t) exw-India, respectively.
Ferro vanadium prices, however, increased by INR 30,000/t ($313/t) w-o-w to INR 1,385,000/t ($14,472/t) exw-Raipur. Suppliers were reportedly offering available material at firmer levels and preferred holding inventories rather than liquidating stocks at lower prices. Firm replacement costs and limited seller flexibility gradually shifted market sentiment in favour of sellers, supporting the weekly increase.
IEX: Spot prices inch up w-o-w
Electricity prices on the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) averaged INR 4.408/unit during 16-22 August 2026, edging up from INR 4.075/unit in the previous week.
