Weekly round-up: Ferro alloys prices range-bound w-o-w, manganese alloys buck trend

  • Eramet lowers manganese ore prices for June
  • Silico manganese prices up on production cuts

Ferro chrome prices resilient in steady market

Indian high-carbon ferro chrome (HC 60%, Si: 4%) prices were unchanged w-o-w at INR 100,400/t ($1,173/t) exw-Jajpur. Amid restricted supply and low trading activity in the domestic market, prices held steady with no significant fluctuations observed this week. Market awaits OMC’s chrome ore auction outcome scheduled next week.

Silico manganese prices up despite weak demand

Indian silico manganese prices edged up by INR 500/t ($6/t) w-o-w to INR 70,200-70,900/t ($820-828/t) in the key regions of Durgapur, Raipur and Vizag. Domestic silico manganese prices edged up slightly w-o-w despite weak demand from steel mills. Smelters resorted to production curtailment by 20-30%.The withdrawal of discounts by some smelters supported the price rise. Falling raw material prices had minimal effect on overall production expenses, keeping output steady.

However, prices of the 65-16 grade were largely stable, inching down by $1/t w-o-w to $930/t FOB Vizag/Haldia, India.

Ferro manganese prices mostly steady w-o-w

Indian ferro manganese (HC 70%) prices were largely stable with a slight decline by INR 100/t ($1/t) w-o-w to INR 71,900/t ($840/t) exw in Durgapur. Meanwhile, prices, exw-Raipur slipped by INR 50/t ($1/t) to INR 72,250/t ($844/t). The market maintained a cautious tone this week, with participants adopting a wait-and-watch approach amid uncertain demand and pricing trends.

Additionally, HC 75% ferro manganese prices fell by $6/t w-o-w to $930/t FOB Vizag/Haldia.

Imported manganese ore prices show mixed trends

Prices of imported manganese ore (Mn 37-46%) reflected mixed trends w-o-w across all grades. Mn44% from Gabon stood at $4.51/dry metric tonne per unit (dmtu), down by $0.07/dmtu w-o-w. Mn37% from South Africa was assessed at $3.91/dmtu, up by $0.02/dmtu w-o-w and Mn46% from Australia was at $4.83/dmtu CIF India, down by $0.07/dmtu.

Additionally, Eramet Comilog, a major manganese ore exporter from Gabon, has set its June shipment prices of Mn44.5% lumps at $4.4/dmtu, and for Mn43% at $4.2/dmtu, marking a $0.4/dmtu decrease m-o-m for both grades.

Ferro silicon largely stable despite marginal production cuts

Indian ferro silicon prices were largely steady with a slight decline of INR 400/t ($5/t) w-o-w settling at INR 94,700/t ($1,106/t) exw-Guwahati. A couple of Meghalaya-based players have been asked to suspend production on pollution related concerns. However, prices in Bhutan stood firm at INR 95,300/t ($1,113/t) exw. Trades, including bulk deals, were concluded at lower values in this assessment window, which led to a slight drop in prices w-o-w.

Ferro molybdenum dips w-o-w on lower LME futures

Indian ferro molybdenum prices declined by INR 33,000/t ($386/t) w-o-w to INR 2,508,000/t ($29,299/t) exw-India. Prices fell, under pressure from bid-offer disparities. Meanwhile, on the London Metal Exchange (LME) platform prices inched down slightly by $0.21/lb w-o-w to $19.8/lb on 13 May 2025.

Ferro vanadium prices remain largely steady w-o-w

Ferro titanium prices edge down w-o-w

Indian ferro titanium (Ti: 70%, 10-50 mm) prices declined by INR 2,500/t ($29/t) w-o-w to INR 347,500/t ($4,060/t) ex-works. Market conditions remained stable, showing limited fluctuations amid steady supply-demand dynamics.
