Waiting for forest clearance to resume mining in Karnataka – Sesa Goa

After one and a half year's time, on April 19, Supreme Court finally allowed B grade mines in the state of Karnataka to start operations after completion of Rehabilitation & Resettlement plans.

In an exclusive interview with SteelMint, about the same, Mr. Prasun K. Mukherjee – Managing Director (MD) of Sesa Goa said that the company is waiting for forest clearance from the ministry of environment and forest, after which, Sesa Goa's Karnataka mines is to immediately resume operations.

He also mentioned that Sesa Goa is to produce 2.29 MnT of iron ore from its Narain mines located at Chitradurga, in the state of Karnataka, this fiscal and is hopeful that in the month of May, the company would start operations.

When asked about Supreme Court's order for auction of C grade mines, Mukherjee said that we should wait to see the process as to how it is to be initiated and that which all C grade mines would be participating in the same, adding that it would be too early to say much around the same.
