Vedanta Limited (formerly known as Sesa sterlite/Sesa Goa), has invited bids to procure 600,000 MT imported non-coking coal. Various units of Vedanta like Aluminium & Power at Jharsugda & Langigarh, Sterlite Copper at Tuticorin and subsidiaries like MALCO Energy, Hindustan Zinc and BALCO operate coal based thermal power plants with total installed capacity of 8,800+ MW.
The company has released an RFP (Request for Proposal) in order to invite miners as well as traders of coal, who are exporting coal in excess of 5 MT pa to supply 600,000 MT non-coking coal on FoB/CFR basis, at various ports across India. Last date of submission of bids will be 3 August, 2015.
The material is required to meet the operational requirement of its various plants mentioned above. Also, it would be required during Aug-Oct 2015.
MALCO Energy at Salem & Sterlite Copper at Tuticorin require 130,000 MT coal of a total. The preferred unloading port will be Tuticorin in Supramax or Panamax vessel. Whereas, other units such as Jharsuguda, Langigarh, BALCO and Hindustan Zinc Ltd (HZL) will prefer vessels like Panamax, Supramax, Cape size.
