Vale’s Q1 2017 Coal Production Jumps 41% Q-o-Q

The global mining major—Vale—achieved higher coal production in the first quarter of 2017 despite having disposed off its Australian operations in late 2016.

During Q1 2017, the company produced 2,434 ‘000MT of coal in total, comprising of Coking as well as Non Coking, from its operations in Mozambique. Notably, there was no production in Australia as its Carborough Downs Mine, situated at the Queensland region in Australia, was divested in Nov’16.

The higher production during the quarter was due to the incremental productions at its Moatize coal mine in Mozambique. Productions of both Coking and Non Coking Coal were higher during the quarter both on quarter-on-quarter as well as year-on-year basis.
