According to USA customs data, USA flat steel imports which includes (7208 – HR coils/Plates,7209 – CR coils, 7210, 7212 GP/GC and 7225 electrical sheets) are down by 15% Y-o-Y to 11.84 MnT in 2016 as compared to 13.91 MnT in 2015.
On monthly basis, nation’s flat steel imports decline by 6% to 0.96 MnT in Dec’16 against Nov’16.In Nov’16 the same stood at 1.02 MnT.
If yearly comparison is made, then USA flat steel imports slumped by 6% in Dec’16 against 1.02 MnT in corresponding time frame of previous year.
Grade-Wise USA Flat Steel Imports
If grade-wise analysis is made, then 7210 imports have increased by 17.34% in Dec’16 against Nov’16 whereas grade 7208 and 7209 declined in Dec’16 against previous month. Although, other flat steel grades imports like 7225 and 7212 also shown the hike in Dec’16 against Nov’16.

Country-wise USA Flat Steel Imports
Canada was the major exporter of USA flat steel and has shipped 2,23,094 MT in Dec’16 against 2,56,570 MT in Nov’16.Other major countries include South Korea, Taiwan followed by Netherlands and Mexico.
