USA Coal Export Decline by 25% in Jul’16

USA’s monthly coal export fell by 25% in Jul’16 compared to last month. Also, monthly coal export quantity hit the lowest of the year.

USA, world’s fourth largest coal exporter, shipped about 6.7 MMst coal in Jul’16 with a significant fall of 25% compared to last month. Country’s yearly coal exports also noted a fall of 13% compared to Jul’15.

Out of the total monthly exported quantity, more than 90% coal comprises Bituminous and Pet coke and rest are Anthracite, Coke and other grades.

USA’s coal shipments have been reducing consistently since a year and hit the lowest in Jul’16. Although USA coal production also declining and expected to decrease by 163 MMst which would be the largest decline in at least 67 years. In Jul’16. The country’s coal output reached at 65 MMst, increased by 14% compared to last month.

In the 1st seven month of the year, the country exported 52.9 MMst coal with a significant fall of 16%, which was 63.42 MMst in the same consecutive period last year.

India imported the largest coal quantity during the month, followed by Brazil and Japan as the 2nd and 3rd largest importers in Jul’16.

India is one of the largest buyers of US grade coal took about 1.2 MMst coal in Jul’16; down by 18% compared to last month. While, yearly import rose by more than 100%, which was at 0.47 MMst in Jul’15.

Brazil, the second-largest coal importer during the month, imported about 0.65 MMst coal in Jul’16, with a down fall of 9%, compared to 0.72 MMst in Jun’16. The nation’s yearly import recorded a growth of 17%, which was 0.56 MMst in Jul’15.

Japan, the third-largest importer of USA coal in Jul’16, imported about 0.64 MMst coal during the month, declined in shipments as the country’s import fell by 3% compared to Jun’16. While, import moved up by 8% Y-o-Y.
